Hi ya’ll!
Welcome to my substack…I’ve never considered myself much of a writer (even when I was in grad school and had to write papers all the time), but I do have lots of thoughts, feelings, and opinions. As @macfacts on TikTok, I make content about my life as an arts professional in NYC, exhibitions, arts events, and art history and I hope to dive into this a little more here.
Many of you may know me from TikTok or Instagram (or maybe IRL…if so skip this part), but…
I am Mac (she/her)
As I mentioned, I am an arts professional and creative (I’ll get into more specifics later on here), living in NYC. I am originally from the Texas and Louisiana border right on the Gulf Coast!
I started creating content in 2022 in hopes to demystify the arts and increase accessibility to the arts. In 2022 and 2023, I had over 100 visits to exhibitions, museums, and galleries and I am trying to reach this goal again in 2024!
I’m a June Gemini with a Scorpio moon and Sag rising; enneagram 4w3; ENFP; and one time I took a really look personality quiz to see which tv character I was and my top rated was Taste from Orange is the new Black
Likes include animals and kids, the moon, spicy foods, my hobonichi planner, and the meaning of things like colors, birthdays, and flowers! I love reality TV and glee, taking photographs, and of course art, poetry, and architecture.
One thing I am passionate about (and feel like I am good at) is cultivating community. I recently got a review at the museum I work at and was told I “speak the same to everyone no matter their age”. I took this as a compliment, as I’d like to think children never feel I am talking down to them (which is something I hated when I was younger and still do!) and all adults, no matter their background, can articulate what I am saying through approachable themes and language.
Though I am not to sure how often I will be on here (aiming for once a month or more), I do know I want to discuss art I see, opinions I have, and how my experienced have shaped how these. In the future, I might be sharing curated lists for exhibitions, art events, and institutions to visit…let’s see where this goes!
